IODP has three Implementing Organizations (IOs). Typically, the IOs manage all ships and platform operations from port to sea and back again. Staff scientists from each IO accompany each IODP science party, providing consistency from one expedition to the next.
U.S. Implementing Organization (USIO), conducts riserless drilling operations. (JOIDES Resolution)
Center for Deep Earth Exploration (CDEX), conducts riser platform operations. (Chikyu)
ECORD Science Operator (ESO), conducts mission-specific operations. (Mission-Specific-Platforms)

National and consortium offices play a key role in selecting science party members, balancing the mix of scientific expertise and international participation.
USA, USSSP (U.S. Science Support Program) in USA
Japan, J-DESC (Japan Drilling Earth Science Consortium) in Japan
Europe, ESSAC (ECORD Science Support & Advisory Committee)
